Rinehart Motion Systems offers a wide range of power electronic products, suitable for Automotive and Motorsport EV, HEV, and PHEV applications. Available solutions and technology also support applications in the industrial motor control, energy storage and photovoltaic / alternative energy generation markets.
Motor Drives:
From 1 to 1000kW, RMS has the technology, experience, and resources to develop and produce custom drive systems for virtually any type of motor. Designs are characterized by small size, minimum weight, high reliability and attention to system level details.
RMS also offers standard products intended for EV, HEV and PHEV traction, energy storage, and vehicle power management applications to OEMs.
The PM100DX 100kW 3-phase traction motor drive is the smallest, lightest, and most advanced liquid cooled traction control available today. It features:
- Ultra-Compact design, exceeding 18kW/L volumteric density
- Very low weight, with better than 12kW/kg mass density
- Advanced Field Oriented control options for BLDC, PMAC, and AC Induction motor controls, sensored or sensorless
- Extremely rugged system designed to tolerate 80oC inlet water temperauture without derating
- Advanced CAN communications, and a wide range of customization options in firmware and hardware
Custom Power Modules:
Since the late 80’s the principals at RMS have been involved in custom power module design for electric vehicle and industrial motion control applications. Designs from the ground up have provided benefits in size reduction, performance and cost. Thermal management, power conversion topology and system design have been core competencies.
Custom Module developments include many novel and challenging applications:
Residential HVAC Integrated Drive Module:
A small Induction motor drive for a residential heat pump application. The drive includes the 3-phase motor control, plus a power factor corrected 1-phase AC-DC converter front end to maximize available power from the wall outlet.
This drive includes the control hardware, firmware, and user interface (not shown).
Industrial Variable Speed AC Drive Power Module Line:
Power hybrid assemblies for a full line of industrial AC Drives, 1-20Hp. Drives were private labelled for Cutler-Hammer, Sumitomo Heavy Industries, and other OEMs
Subcontract assembly was performed under supervision by a partner in Japan. In excess of 90,000 drives have been shipped to date.
Electric Vehicle (EV) Power Module:
A custom 600A / 600V inverter power module design for Ford Motor Company. This was used in a Sci Labs research project, not scheduled for production.
150kVA Utility-Interactive Energy Storage System Inverter:
RMS has received and successfully completed Phase 1 and Phase 2 SBIR Grants from the US Department of Energy to develop power electronics packaging technology to prolong the life and reduce the cost of high power inverter (50 - 500kW power level) for the Utility industry.
The design goals include30 year operational life under heavy power cycling activity in an outdoor-mounted enclosure for switchyard and substation environments.
