Power Circuit Design and Development
The company has considerable experience with the physical and electrical design of power circuits from a few Watts to 1000kW. This includes mechanical layout, thermal design, analysis of the losses and temperature rise of the components, laminated bus bar designs, DC link capacitor bank designs, and overall system enclosure design for a myriad of applications.
Novel and challenging end uses have included:
- An unmanned deep sea submersible propulsion control. This power hardware was rated at 20,000 feet below sea level, and operated at ambient (sea floor) pressure
- Hermetic, water cooled capacitor assembly for a 50kW drive
Traction Drives for EV, HEV and PHEV
RMS is developing traction controls (drives) for a variety of diverse alternative vehicles. The Company has significant activities on the Army's Future Combat Systems (FCS) Manned Ground Vehicle (MGV) platform.
Power Hybrid and Multi-Chip Module Packaging
All aspects of power module design are available. This include power substrate layout design, die attach tooling and fixturing, wirebonding layout design, gate and power leadframe design, injection molded component design, and comprehensive thermal analysis.
Applications have included:
- A 1Hp 3-phase Power Module with integrated gate drive and direct connection to DSP or Control Processor for White Goods market (washing machine)
- Custom module for an electronic active suspension control system for US road car
Power Semiconductor Characterization
- Extensive electrical characterization of IGBT / Diode / FET AC and DC parameters, including loss model parameter extraction for power circuit thermal design
- Fault condition device testing to ensure robust real world fault tolerance
- Power Cycling, Temperature Cycling, and other in-house life test capability
Advanced Thermal Management Design
- Extensive thermal design and thermal component and system analysis for air-, water- and oil-cooled circuits, assemblies and systems
- Cast, Extruded, Transfer Molded, Injection Molded, and exotic metal matrix materials experience
Rapid Prototyping and 3D Printing
- RMS offers rapid printing of 3D parts in ABS Plastic up to 10 x 12 x 10in high on a Dimension BST1200 printer
- Parts can be fabricated and shipped within 24hours in most cases
- CNC Machining Services for prototype or low volume production in most metals
Automation Test Systems
The company has developed many R&D, Production, and Inspection test systems that automate the production test, production screening, burn-in, and related power component or power electronic system test needs
